Privacy policy
Last updated 26 September 2026
This page explains what we do with the details you give us through this website, by email or on the phone. The short version: we only use them to deal with your enquiry or booking, we don't send marketing emails, and we never sell your information.
Who we are
The Petersfield Bookshop Ltd (company number 16953164), 16a Chapel Street, Petersfield GU32 3DS, is responsible for your personal information. If you have any questions, email sales@petersfieldbookshop.com or call 01730 263438.
What we collect and why
Selling us books. If you use the form on our Sell your books page, we collect your name (if you give it), your email address and/or phone number, and what you tell us about the books. If you send us photos, through the form or by email, we keep those too. We use this to reply, look at the books and make you an offer. We rely on your request for us to do this, and our legitimate interest in buying books.
Event bookings. When you RSVP to an event, we collect your name and email address so we know who is coming and can tell you if anything changes.
Emails and phone calls. If you contact us, we use your details to reply.
We don't have a mailing list and we won't add you to one.
Who else sees it
We use a few trusted services to run the shop, and they only use your information on our behalf: Wix.com, which hosts this website and stores form messages and event bookings; our email provider; and Google, which provides the map on our Visit page. Some of these companies may store data outside the UK, with the legal safeguards UK law requires.
If you buy from us on AbeBooks or eBay, their own privacy policies apply to that purchase.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries, photos and event bookings for about a year, then delete them. If we buy books from you, we keep a record of the purchase for as long as we need it for our accounts (usually six years).
Cookies
Our website runs on Wix, which sets the cookies needed for the site to work and stay secure. If we use any optional cookies, for example to count visits, we'll ask first, and you can change your mind at any time. The map on our Visit page comes from Google, which may set its own cookies.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it. Email sales@petersfieldbookshop.com and we'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
